Ohio Petroglyphs
Petroglyphs were carved in rocks all over Ohio by the proto-Shawnee before European contact. Because of the damp weather here in Ohio, many of these petroglyphs have been damaged by erosion and are difficult to see. Others have been damaged or destroyed by vandals or developers. Some were flooded when rivers were diverted.
Fortunately, early researchers did rubbings, made drawings, took photos, etc. to save the history of these pictures carved in rocks. Although there were hundreds of them at one time, the list I've been able to locate is rather limited - maybe 70. Not all of them have been made into custom stamps, but the ones that have are availble on handmade jewelry. Below is the current list of available Ohio petroglyphs that can be stamped onto jewelry.
